Bull in the China Shop

Jesus is a beast (in a good way), a fierce man. But his passions aren't reckless or in the moment.

Could a small, unintimidating limp wristed sissyfied man stir up so much trouble? Think about it he kicked all the money changers (AKA thieves) out of the temple. He pulled off this assault in a manner of moments. This is a fierce bull of a man. If a weak half hearted man with a small feminine voice tried this, he’d be stopped in his tracks. Jesus is a locomotive, a juggernaut a William Wallace type of a man, of course we know he is God in the flesh but for all practical purposes in this situation, he is the bull in the china shop.

But is this the Jesus of the songs we sing on Sunday mornings? We've missed the boat somewhere, I mean we compare Jesus to, “a rose trampled on the ground.” Oh Helpless, lovely Jesus. Vegetarian, 7lbs 3 ounce peaceful baby Jesus, tranquil dont want to hurt anyones feelings Jesus. Oh, wait—that was Gandhi. Not Jesus. Matt. 10:34 says Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the Earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.

Can you picture Gandhi or Buddha storming into a local election hall, shouting, overturning tables, sending the participants running for their lives? Now throw a small crowd into the mix, which they also need to clear out. Impossible. Whoever did this would have to be a mans man committed to the mission which was to clear the building. Fierce and intentional.

These are characteristics and qualities that arent typically synonymous with Jesus but they couldn't be more true of Him.

Oh, Jesus could be soft, and he certainly was humble, but his fierce intentionality and passion is awe inspiring to watch. He could hug it up with the best of them but when needed he would drop His shoulder and plow through the line of sin like JJ Watt on Sunday Night football. He's no rose trampled on the ground He's a General who laid down His life for His men.

Today this writing either upsets you or it pumps you up. If it upsets you it may be because your entire temple or shop is filled with china plates of sin carefully placed on the shelves of your life. My encouragement to you would be simply to let the bull into the china shop and give King Jesus rule and reign over every area of your life. Let Him destroy those strongholds that you held onto for so long.

If this pumps you up don't let it be a reckless moment of exitement for the Lord. Instead, stand strong on the Word and be the man or woman God has called you to be, don't be ok with sin. Be loud and be proud of who you serve don't whisper it in the church halls but scream it from the rooftops. Don't let the world or religion tame the beast that God has created you to be.
